Terms of Service

1. Acceptance

By using incogsay.com (the "Service") you accept these terms. They are short because the Service is simple: free tools, no accounts, nothing you enter is stored. If you do not accept them, please do not use the Service. Our privacy policy explains what happens to what you type, and the disclaimer covers the limits of what any result means.

2. What the Service is

IncogSay publishes free online tools in three areas: email authentication checks and record builders, link and URL utilities, and date and age calculators. Some run entirely in your browser; others ask a worker at the network edge to look something up in public DNS, RDAP or TLS. Each tool's page says which, and names the specification or convention it follows.

The Service is provided free of charge, without registration, and is funded by advertising. Every result is informational. It tells you what public records said at the moment of the lookup, or what a stated counting convention produces from the dates you gave — it is not professional, legal, medical, financial or security advice, and it is not a guarantee about anything.

3. Acceptable use

Use the tools for their intended purpose — checking your own records, inspecting a link before you open it, working out a date. Please do not:

  • Send automated traffic at a volume that degrades the Service for other people, including bulk scraping, load testing or denial-of-service patterns. There is no published API; if you need programmatic access, ask us.
  • Use a result to harass, defame, impersonate or unlawfully target any person or organisation.
  • Use the Service to break the law where you are, or where the systems you are querying are.
  • Attempt to interfere with the Service itself — probing for vulnerabilities without permission, circumventing rate limits, or submitting input intended to compromise the workers that run it. If you believe you have found a genuine security issue, please report it rather than exploit it.

We may rate-limit or block traffic that is abusive or is degrading the Service for others, without notice.

4. No warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any result will be accurate, complete or current.

Two specific limits are worth stating plainly. A lookup reports what was published publicly at the moment it ran, and DNS answers can be cached upstream, so a record you changed minutes ago may not yet be visible. And a clean result means these particular checks found nothing — not that a domain, link or message is safe. Anything consequential should be confirmed against the authoritative source.

5. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, IncogSay shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, revenue or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service or your reliance on any result it produces.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, in which case the exclusions above apply only to the extent permitted there.

6. Intellectual property

The IncogSay name, the site's design, its written explanations and the code behind the tools belong to us. You are welcome to use the tools and to quote or link to our explanations with attribution; you may not copy the site wholesale, republish its content as your own, or present the Service as your product.

The underlying standards are not ours and never were — SPF, DKIM, DMARC, MTA-STS, TLS and the rest are public specifications, which is exactly why anyone can implement them. The architecture notes describe how we do.

7. Third-party data, links and advertising

Results are assembled from data published by third parties: DNS operators, domain registries via ICANN's RDAP service, certificate authorities, and the hosts your links point at. We report what those sources returned and do not control or endorse them. Brand names appearing in examples are used because their records are public and useful to demonstrate on; they imply no affiliation.

The site displays advertising through Google AdSense. We do not control which ads are shown or what happens on the sites they lead to, and clicking one is a transaction between you and that advertiser.

8. Changes to the Service and these terms

Tools are added, changed and occasionally retired, and these terms may be updated. Material changes are reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the revised terms.

9. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws applicable at our place of establishment, without limiting any mandatory consumer protections available to you where you live. If a dispute arises, please contact us first — most are a misunderstanding about what a result means, and are settled in an email.
